Just over a week ago I woke up in the middle of the night and had this burning desire to create a design for Gay Pride. I didn’t get up but just wrote a note down to remind me as sometimes all is forgotten in the morning! I had been invited on Facebook to the Gay Parade that will be on in September where I live in the island of Jersey and I suppose that is partly why I was thinking of it when I went to bed. The next day I created the image and uploaded it to my Facebook pages and my online shops.
I attended the Parade last year for the first time and was truly inspired by the camaraderie, acceptance and fun that everyone had no matter what sexuality they were. Everyone was in on the party from dogs, babies, politicians and office workers and I was very moved by the love that seemed to be apparent. Being a big softie, I had to hold back the tears when speeches were made by politicians and drag queens and they too talked about the phenomenal shift there had been in their acceptance. It was a brilliant day!
Then the other day I saw what had happened in Orlando and I wonder now if my burning desire to create this image was some kind of premonition. I have every hope that this tragedy will bring people more into their hearts instead of the other way round and my love goes to all who have been effected.
